A report from Bill Davis of the Rotary Club of Humble.

I am delighted to report that two young ladies who I had the privilege of inviting to the family of Rotary have been invited by Rotary International President Ian Riseley to speak at the General Session of the Annual Convention of Rotary to be held in Toronto next June. It is anticipated that the session will be attended by 20,000.
Both ladies are former Rotary Global scholars.
Anja Nikolova is from Macedonia and received two $30,000 Rotary Scholarships to attend Yale University where she earned a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management. Rotary District 5890 funded her first year of studies and five Districts 5890, 5930 and 5840 in Texas along with 5770 in Oklahoma and 7980 in Connecticut funded her second year. Anja is currently in NYC where she is employed at Kiehl’s, a L’Oreal company, where her work is focused on environmental and social impact.
- Dr. Isis Mejias is originally from Venezuela and moved to Houston with her family after completing high school. Isis has a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Houston and a joint PhD from UH and the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil where she studied on her Rotary Scholarship from District 5890. Isis is employed by Forum Energy Technologies in Houston.
President Ian Riseley’s invitation to Anja -
“As Rotary Global Scholar whose work focuses on environmental sustainability, we hope you will bring our participants a better understanding of some of the ways that environmental issues can interact with the broader topic of economic/community development and peace.”
Mr. Riseley’s invitation to Isis -
“ My good friend Don Mebus, has told me about your work in WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) education and through WASRAG. I was most impressed by these accomplishments, and I hope you will share your passion for the transformative power of WASH education, and the central importance of sustainability in our service, with our convention audience.”
