Susan recognized as Featured Volunteer of The Week
Our own Susan has been recognized as Featured Volunteer of The Week by Better Homes/Gary Greene Realtors. Her picture and a write-up is on page 5A of the July 6 Kingwood Observer.
Susan Brodbeck currently serves as Rotary Youth Exchange Officer for The Rotary Club of Humble. In the past Susan has served as President of Humble Rotary 2014-2015, Youth Exchange Counselor, District Rotary Short Term Exchange Coordinator, and Humble Rotary Festival and fundraiser chair.
Susan became interested in Rotary and it's Youth Exchange Program when she became a member in 2007.  Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) is a world wide program of Rotary International and each year over 8000 students spend a year abroad studying and promoting world peace one person at a time.
Since then Susan has helped lead the Humble Rotary Youth Exchange Committee in hosting 20 Inbound RYE students and finding and vetting 52 host families for them.
Finding 2-3 Host families for each Inbound Student each year is the biggest challenge but through wonderful relationships with high school language teachers, families emerge.
In addition Humble Rotary Club also recruits and prepares Outbound Exchange Students in Humble ISD high schools. In the last 6 years Susan and her committee have recruited 28 Long Term Students and 14 Short Term students.
Keeping up with RYE activities, orientations, rules, regulations, and compliance for Humble Rotary's large, well established program all boils down to preparation, planning, organizing, communicating, coordinating and building relationships which are skills Susan enjoys just as she did in her 31 year career as a Department Store Buyer and Merchandise Manager. Humble Rotary Club and it's large membership and vast community service initiatives provides members a way to "give back" and help others.
