Humble Thanksgiving Feast touches lives of community

The committee for the Humble Thanksgiving Feast has begun making the preparations for the 11th annual Thanksgiving Feast,  to be held this year on Thursday, Nov. 26.

“We are in need of the community’s support,” said Bonnie Gardner, owner of Top Hat catering, who has sponsored this event for the past 10 years.

Last year was a first – the Feast actually ran out of food.  Gardner and a team of volunteers fed more than 4,000 people, many more than any other previous year.  Looking ahead, Gardner needs more donations and volunteers than ever.  Donations and support from the community, local businesses, churches, social groups are big players in making this feast possible.

The Thanksgiving meal will be prepared by Top Hat Catering and Mo’s Barbecue and will include turkey, ham, cornbread stuffing, creamed potatoes, green beans and pumpkin pie. Take-out and delivery will also available for those that may not be able to leave the house this Thanksgiving.

There is more than food at this feast. Live music by local musicians will be playing throughout the day, fun activities for the kids will be available and a visit from Santa Claus will end the day.

Sponsors of the feast include The Tribune Newspapers, the Humble Rotary, Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, Rosewood Funeral Home, Citizens Bank, Humble ISD, The City of Humble, the Lion's Club, and Minuteman Press.
“I'm hoping that no one goes without food this year or is lonely and not able to share Thanksgiving with someone else,” Gardner said. Her main goal with the Feast is to allow people to come together and be a part of something amazing.

Cash donations can be made directly at Citizen Bank, 8811 FM 1960 Bypass, Humble, to the fund created for the event, mailed to “Thanksgiving Feast” at 1702 Wilson Road, Humble, TX or emailed to humblethanksgivingfeast@yahoo.com.

The Feast is set to take place at the Humble Civic Center from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. To volunteer, set up an order, or learn more about how to help call 281-540-9597.
